That is a tricky question.

People look for different things on snorkeling excursions based on their familiarity with the sport and their particular circumstances. Some people enjoy the free-floating snorkeling available on the PowerBoat Adventures Exuma excursion. You just float along, carried by the current of the warm, crystal-clear water, over colorful corals teeming with sealife. Everyone I know, who has gone on that excursion, has absolutely loved it. There are many other locations in the Bahamas where one can "drift snorkel".

Families with younger children prefer to snorkel right offshore, which is quite possible at many, many resorts and hotels in the Bahamas. You probably won't make any big undersea discoveries, that close to shore, but you will see plenty of interesting sea life and schools of colorful fish that will delight any child, and many adults.

For more sophisticated snorkeling, I suggest you involve local experts, accessible at almost any resort or hotel among the islands. The snorkeling experts can take you further out to sea, in their boat, to the very best locations, so you can do some serious snorkeling... and diving!

For a list of snorkeling and dive operators among the islands, browse or search the Bahamas Web Directory.
