Well, I think, like any tourist destination, (pretty much anywhere on earth) you should probably stick to the "tourist" areas.

Fortunately, the "tourist" areas in Grand Bahama include many of the neighborhoods and settlements that give the island its charm.

Freeport may be a nice safe area, but it is 2004, there are unsavoury characters everywhere nowadays. So, excercise the same "street smarts" you would anywhere else.

I'm moving to Freeport in December that's why I'm concerned about the crime. Is Port Lucaya considered a tourist area?

Are there many activities for children - mine are 9, 13, and 15?

I have been to freeport a couple of times from Europe and was very unimpressed with the attitude of the Bahamian female immigration officers on both times. They have very bad attitudes.

Politeness doesn't cost much and also they never know who may be visiting in disguise just to access the hospitality of the place.

On the whole, people are friendly and polite.
