I am supposed to vacation in Freeport next week. We are supposed to be staying at the Crown Plaza Resort. I am not sure if the hotel received any damage during the storm. Do you know if this is considered a nice hotel? Is there entertainment close by?

Hello, I am from Bearden Arkansas USA. I am so sorry to here about the damage that Francis left at Free Port. I had reservations at Viva Fortuna for 9/21/04 to 9/28/04 but the resort advised they will be closed the rest of the year due to hurricane damage. I would like to vacation in Free Port and have an oportunity to exchange for Island Seas Resort but I can not reach them by phone or e-mail. If I could reach them and verify that the resort is able to receive guests and have safe water and utilities I would use my air line tickets as previously planned, however I do not know what to do. Can you help?

I know the Crown Plaza is a nice hotel and I know there is entertainment nearby.

But I do not know how soon they will be able to receive guests.

The phone lines are not working in Freeport yet. Also, the airport was not operating when I checked but will be in a day or so, I was told.

Freeport and Grand Bahama were hit hard by hurricane Frances and the damage has not yet been summarized.

I understand the Crowne Plaza was damaged severely. The lobby is full of water. I have been informed that they are closed for repairs until December or January.

You should probably contact your travel agent or the hotel directly (once phone lines are restablished) at 1-800-2CROWNE.

The Crown Plaza I read was hit very hard in September the Crown Plaza hotel information reads that it is to reopen June 1,2005 but I read newspapers on the internet that it is going to open on April, 1-2005. I have also booked to stay there on April 20-25-2005, do you think it will be open and the hotel ready, like the pool open and etc. Please e-mail me back, Thank's Nevin dj6277hi@aol.com

Sorry, but I do not think that the Crown Plaza will be fully open by April 20. The newspapers you read were earlier expectations. The CP web site would have the most recent updates.

I think you should telephone them to discuss your situation.

There are several other options for accommodations on Grand Bahama that are completely ready for guests.

I'm planning on going in May & I can't find out any information regarding if the Crown Plaza will be re-open by then. If anyone has any information I would appreciate it. At this point we are scheduled to stay at the Best Western in Freeport.

The Plaza Hotel has been purchased by the Irish Company Harcourt Development, they also seem to have purchesed much of the land all around the area called Bahamia, I am told they are pumping in a lot of money into restoring it
