We were thinking of traveling to Nassau during spring break time with our 2 younger children. May 31st - April 6th. We were looking at the Wyndham which looked very nice and it had a kids program. Upon further research on the net it looks like it's a very popular hotel with the Spring Breakers. Not what I had in mind for a "family" vacation. Are there any family friendly resorts during that time or should we consider postponing until the partying is over?

The Spring Break season brings lots of young adults and even teens down here. However, aside from the nightclubs and "spring break" events, it is really not as wild as some would have you believe.

During the day, around town, all the visiting kids are well mannered and the City of Nassau is quite prepared to handle the extra crowd.

There are some hotels that are less apt to book Spring Breakers, like the British Colonial Hilton on Bay Street, and Atlantis and Comfort Suites on Paradise Island. Guests at Comfort Suites get full privileges at Atlantis.

That is not exactly correct.

Each hotel DOES have various extra charges that are applied to your bill (surcharges and taxes). To my knowledge there is no hotel charging for water.

Always a good idea to communicate with your hotel or travel agent to make sure you know exactly which charges are included in your room rate and what will be added to the basic room charges.

Hi ADMIN ,thanks for your reply on the water charges on further investigation and for your information the $19/day /person is charged by all hotels and resorts on Paradise Island but it is a Maintenance charge for the upkeep of the island ,I guess that is why the place is always immaculate, thought you would like to know for future reference.

Hi Dave, Thanks for your comments. There must be some mis-communication, however. I have spoken with numerous hotel and resort owners this morning and they all assure me that there is ABSOLUTELY NO charge such as you describe.

There are the usual taxes and surcharges on rooms, as outlined below:

12% room tax
3.75 per adult, per day, for housekeeping
3.50 per person (12 and over), per day, for utilities surcharge

For larger groups, there are special charges. Perhaps you are traveling with a group.

Or, maybe the charges above work out to $19 per day, in your case, and you are confusing those charges with something else.

We are human and make mistakes, but the information I give you above is right from the horse's (hotel manager's) mouth. We live here and do business with these hotels and resorts on a daily basis. We are responsible for booking over 1,000 room nights per year, so we are pretty sure of what we say.

Talk to your hotel representative or your travel agent and see if the $19 per day isn't a group charge, or the total of the above charges.

And have fun in the Bahamas!
