Going to the Ritz Beach Resort next month. What can anyone tell me about this resort's condition, service & amenities, and the area (including beaches) near it? Does anyone have pictures? How hard is it to get to Lacaya and the International Market place from there?

Hey Joe! My boyfriend and I are going to be staying at the Ritz from 4/14 - 4/23. We haven't ben there but his parents told us that there is a hotel bus that goes to the market about every other day. As far as condition, I know that it did not sustain much, if any, damage from the hurricanes. That's about all I know. I did find a website from someone's vacation that has some great pictures...but I can't find it anymore. Sorry. Well, maybe we'll see you down there. Later. Whitnie

Going to Bahamas next week. What's the weather supposed to be like? Need jackets in the evening? Do we need to pack anything besides t-shirts, shorts & bathing suits? What about dress for the restaurants? What is the Ritz Beach Resort like? I hear a lot about "My Lucaya"; how does it compare to that?

Just got back from the Grand Bahamas & the Ritz Beach Resort. Had a great time. The Ritz is a very nice place; I'd rate it above average. As people say, not a 5-star, but I'd say 3-1/2 to 4 star. Everyone (in & outside the resort) were friendly. The beach at the Ritz is almost private; not crowded at all. The pool and pool bar at the Ritz are as nice as almost any other resort we've stayed at. Place was clean. The Taino Resort next door & the adjacent motel that belongs to the properties have been extensively damaged from last year's hurricanes; the Taino will be a long time repairing, if at all. Restaurant on-site was good. Just know that food, both at restaurants & grocery, is expensive. I'd recommend the Ritz

Couple more things: The weekly pass for the ferry to Port Lucaya is no longer offered; it's now $5/person per roundtrip. Don't count on using your long distance or pre-paid calling cards at the resort - they don't work. Long distance is expensive. And don't expect anyone to move real fast when you need something. The people are very friendly, but don't get in a hurry. As long as you know that beforehand, and accept that, you will be fine. As one lady told us, "Here we have 2 speeds - slow & stop. You're on vacation so don't worry about time!" Other than that, Ritz is a great place. Pool excellent; plenty of FREE beach chairs on the beach; enjoyed the swim-up, walk-up pool bar under the cave. Don't waste your time going to the International Bazaar - the hurricanes pretty much devastated the place, and many merchants vacated. The Marketplace at Lucaya is a better bet if you want to shop. Port Lucaya itself is more hustle & bustle than the Ritz, which is more laid back. Altogether, we loved it there and had a very romantic, relaxing, refreshing week.

I would appreciate information about the one bedroom with loft unit at the Ritz Beach. Is there a separate livingroom? Is the ladder to the loft in the middle of the bedroom? What is the bed arrangement in the loft? How many bathrooms? Thanks.

Right when you walk into the room there is a bathroom on your right and the kitchen area is on your left. The kitchen is part of one big room that includes a couch, tv, small table, queen size bed, and a jacuzzi behind the bed. The loft stairs come down near the kitchen area close to the foot of the bed, but didn't seem like they were in the way. Once you get into the loft there is another queen size bed with a small couch, a tv, and a bathroom.
