A passport is ideal but not required. For US citizens, an original copy (with a raised seal) of your birth certificate and a photo ID is sufficient.

Is it difficult to get a taxi for airport and hotel transfers? Can prior arrangements be made for pickup by taxi, if so how? Also, you refer to original copy of birth certificate with raised seal as necessary documentation if no passport. My birth certificate is a certified (photostatic)copy, (which is black in nature) but does have the raised seal? Is this sufficient? Thank you.

Taxi cabs are abundant at the airport, and at all hotels. One need not make prior arrangements.

The birth certificate you have (with a raised seal) is sufficient.

However, new legislation, passed by the US Congress, will require US citizens to show valid US passports to re-enter the US from the Bahamas, starting in 2006.

It is very warm pretty much year round. My family went in January 2006 and it was great weather-averaging in the high 70's. It was perfect weather. No rain and we stayed for two great weeks.

I reccomend going to Nassau-thats where we went and it was absolutely wonderful!
