If I do not have an original birth certificate and don't have time to get one before my trip, is there any other papers I can use to enter the Bahamas?

If you have a non-registered copy of your birth certificate you could have that notarized and that would suffice.

In the absence of a birth certificate, a voter's registration card and a drivers license will do, but that is not the preferred documentation.

Actually, the original copy of your birth certificate is most important when re-entering the United States, rather than upon entering The Bahamas, especially now that the US is so security conscious.

I rarely have ever seen a Bahamian Immigration Officer request a birth certificate, perhaps they do on some occassions, and they certainly have the right to do so. They always request valid identification in the form of a picture ID.

Where the original birth certificate (or ideally, a Passport) becomes most important is when you attempt to re-enter the US. They won't let you back in unless you can prove you are a US citizen.

Your birth certificate is very important!! Re-entering is the problem. you can to online and get your birth certificate and have them overnight it to you for about $26.00. That is what I had to do with my husbands. And if you are a women, you have to take your marriage cert. because you have to show how your name was changed from your birth certificate.

Until the end of this year 2006.. you can still travel with an original birth certificate with raised seal (not a hospital cert., but from the state, county, city,) and a Photo Id (DMV)
Married women with name changes must also bring along their marriage certificate showing the names changes.
Tickets must have exact same names as ID.
Keep in mind that the customs and immigration lines leaving the bahamas are long and tedious. Those with passport are in a seperate line which moves much quicker.

It's just easier to get passports.

We do not need to go to land, so can we fish Cay Sal without going through your customs somewhere? And we need your fishing regulations for that same area. Thank you.

You still have to pay the boat fees for bringing a boat into bahamian waters, whether or not you hit land. The rate is quite stiff these days.. I think around $250 or so. There are fishing regulations, seasons etc, and rules are enforced. I'm sure if you do a google search, you'll find the answers you need.
