They messed up our reservation that we confirmed several times and they had to rectify that with us when we checked in.

I stayed in a corner suite, which was a decent size, though I have heard regular rooms are tiny.

The hotel is very clean and the waitstaff/bellhops/maids are all very friendly.

Be ready for extra charges that they throw on the bill like a 16$/day fee to have access to the beach and pool area.

The best part is its location.

16 a day to have access to the beach and pool? I just got my confirmation yesterday and this is not making me thrilled. Yikes.

The person who posted the information above is mistaken.

If you are a guest at the Hilton you do NOT pay any additional charge for access to their private beach or pool.

You DO pay mandatory extra charges for maid service and room taxes, including an energy surcharge. These come to approximately $11.25 per room, per night (based on a double occupancy).

Some of these charges may already be included in your existing room rate, depending on where you booked the room.

Sorry Admin, but I'm not mistaken.
Room was reserved at 135$/night.
We get there and the bill had the base of 135 then 16$/night for access to beach and pool. We reserved the room directly through the hotel.

This ended up being a hefty addition to our bill since we stayed 7 nights at the Hilton.

I do not want to argue about this, but I am IN the Bahamas and work with the Hilton every day.

We do gratis web marketing for them as well. I have NEVER had a guest have to pay for beach access and I steer many people there every month.

With all due respect, something is wrong with your story. To absolutely confirm this information I will call the manager, Mr. Michael Hooper, and discuss this with him ASAP!

As we intend to stay in British Colonial Hilton in July, I would very much like to have the final confirmation by Mr Michael Hooper as to whether or not access to their beach is optional at a charge.

I have spoken with the management of the British Colonial Hilton and am absolutely positive that there is NO charge for normal hotel guests to access the beach or the pool.

If you are coming from a cruise ship, just for the day, there is naturally a charge to access the Hilton's private beach.

Also, if you are part of a large group, who has received a substantial discount on the room rate, they charge a fee of $1.50 per person, per day, for beach and pool access.

I don't want to argue either. Maybe this isn't common policy but it DID happen to me. Here is what's on my bill, maybe you can explain why I got charged this.... maybe it was a mistake!

3/01 - Room Charge 135.00
3/01 - Rm Toll & RESORT LEVY 16.20
3/01 - Rm Attendant Gratuity 7.50
3/01 - Energy Surcharge 7.00
3/01 - KIDS Donation 1.00

This is what's on my bill for all 7 nights we stayed there. Excuse me if I'm wrong, but RESORT LEVY seems to be a charge to use the pool and RESORT area. Hopefully you can explain this to me!

It is true that the rm toll and resort levy is not a charge for use of the pool and beach. It is the equivalent of room taxes in almost every city in the world just called something different here. The kids donation is voluntary and may be taken off with request. It is also correct what was written that with a group booking there is a union manadated charge as above for the pool and beach as well as a bellman automatic gratuity. But only for groups.

I hope this clears this up and as I don't know your name I can't address you by name but if you want any further information my email is Michael.Hooper@hilton.com

regards

Michael Hooper
General Manager

That is fine! Thanks for clearing that up..

A bit of advice, however, would be to include those charges when you tell people the nightly rate.

That way people won't expect 135/night, and then have it be more like 165/night.

I have to say that I stay in hotels every week of the year...(yea, lucky me) And room taxes are a hit and miss (mostly miss) issue. Few hotels communicatae their rates don't include taxes.

But what I am looking for here is, was the property of good quality, how was the staff, services, facilities, etc?

Thanks for helping in advance

Hilton is not a place for Spring Breakers. It's a business hotel. You better know how to handle this brood, or you'll be thrown out.

There's plenty to do nearby. Just not at the hotel itself.

Can't believe the BCH would even book your party.

Concerning the extra room charges above....Most hotels charge a room tax. The hotel website states 12% tax per room plus $7.50 per person per night. (click on the room rate to see details.) Perhaps "anonymous tourist" hasn't traveled much.

Just got back. Pool was clean. Beach was small, breezy but calm water. Sr Frogs music can be loud if you are at that end of the beach but just move closer to the restaurant if you want quiet. We stayed on executive level so room was fine. We caught some mahi while fishing and the restaurant cooked it for us. Good location for Straw market.
