Hi,
Just wondering if you can walk along the beach in paradise island all the way to the Atlantis and the other resorts or is it just in the area of beach that your hotel is in?

Also does anyone have info on the Versailles Gardens? Should I include this in our vacation?

Thanks

Yes you can access the beach at Atlantis ,there is a a public access point by the Riu hotel also there is an access further on past Versailles gardens.Definately visit the gardens also on the opposite side of the road is the Cloisters both are well worth the visit. For a good place to eat visit Montague Gardens restaurant,a little out of the way but you won't be dissapointed excellent food and cheaper than any hotel.

Are the Cloisters a garden as well? Is there any charge in visiting these locations?

There is the Cloisters, an architectural gem. Then, across the street is the Versailles Gardens. There is no charge, but please read the information below.

The story of the Cloisters is unique. This Augustinian cloister was originally located in southwestern France, dating from the 12th Century.

It was purchased by Huntington Hartford (who at one point owned all of Paradise Island) and delivered in pieces to the Bahamas. Unfortunately, the pieces were not labeled so it was a while before they were reassembled.

It was reassembled in 1962 under the guidance of Jean Castre-Manne to the best of his ability. The arrangements of the different classical fragments do have a random quality to them.

The open-air courtyard of the Cloister features a sculpture of a woman. There are plants and flowers growing about to lend a romantic character to the ruins. On its south side, a little round "temple" with classical columns faces the water and acts as the endpoint of the north-south axis that runs through the Versailles garden and shoots through the Cloisters. This gazebo faces Nassau Harbour and is a popular setting for posh weddings.

The Versailles Gardens, along with the Cloisters, are part of the Ocean Club property, owned by Atlantis. You may discreetly visit without any interference, as long as a function is not going on. Be respectful of the fact that it is private property.

In the Versailles Gardens, the north-south axis aligns a string of classical sculptures, including FDR, a hero of Mr. Hartford's. The Ocean Club’s groundskeepers keep the stepped lawns immaculately manicured.

The north end of the axis is the Ocean Club pool, but this is a strictly private area so be careful not to venture that far.

Both the Versailles Gardens and the Cloisters are located in the eastern part of Paradise Island, a pleasant 15-minute stroll from the Atlantis Resort. If you are staying in Nassau, you can taxi, or water taxi to Paradise Island then stroll to the location.

If you pay Atlantis the fee to have your wedding at the Cloisters, there is no additional charge to also take photographs in the Versailles Garden.

If I stay at the Riu on Paradise Island, can I pay extra money to gain access to the Atlantis private beach, slides, etc? Anyone have any information or advice on this? I'm not sure whether to book the Riu or Comfort Suites. Thanks.

Only guest of the Atlantis, Ocean Club, Harbourside and Comfort Suites have Full access to the Atlantis property, pools, slides etc. There ar no day passes available, you would have to book a room for the day in order to access the property. Many people pay for a room and don't even use it. Each room allows up to 4 ppl access to the ground and facilities.

Non-guest can pay $29pp to view the DIGS and aquariums. Casino's, shoppes and Marina Village are open to the public.
