I am traveling to Nassau in July. Do most hotels and restaurants take American Express cards? I was thinking about getting an American Express card but didn't know if it was taken at most businesses in Nassau. Thank you.

I think you will find acceptance of the American Express card about the same as you would anywhere else.

Visa and Mastercard are accepted at more places but Amex is still very popular here.

If you have the regular credit card, yes, most of the places I went to did. Though if you're thinking about getting one of the pre-paid ones DON'T!

A group of us were in PI last week for a wedding and my mother-in-law had gotten one instead of traveler's checks, and BOY did she have problems!! She had problems using it as a "credit card" and then after calling an 800 number and get runaround after runaround (on top of Atlantis charging her $3.00 a min when she specifically asked them if Atlanis would be charged for an 800 number and they said absolutely not anywhere, even internationally).
They finally said she had to wait 24-48 hrs and it would work (greeeat, by then she'd be just about leaving) During the meantime she had to use cash so when it was supposed to work she tried to get cash, and they were charging THIRTY dollars (this was at the Atlantis casino ATM - the only one Atlantis has).
All in all, you'll be better off with traveler's checks. HAVE FUN on you vacation! Enjoy!
