Hello, I am looking for information on whether Freeport was damaged by hurricanes this year. I would like to vacation there but need to know if the beaches or hotels sustained damaged from bad weather. Please let me know if you know or perhaps could point me to a specific website for updates on Freeport.
Thanks, Tom

I just came from a vacation in Freeport this past Saturday 2/11/06. My first time in the Bahamas & Freeport. I loved Freeport and Port Lucaya and I will be going back SOON. Although they were hit with two hurricanes back to back (I think Jean & Wilma) the area is thriving and getting back to normal daily. Some of the hotels hardest hit were still closed but, the beaches are fine. The area of Xanadu still has some washed up glass debris on the beach in places but, they are still working very hard to clean it up the day I was there. Xanadu Resort & Hotel has some floors reopened but, the higher up floors are still closed off and some windows still look like they are out. The hotel looks great though inside and out otherwise! Some of the stores in the International Bazar say they are "closed until further notice" but, there is still a lot to see and do there and in Freeport & Port Lucaya. I highly recommend the "Glass Bottom Boat Tour", "Sea Doos" and the Diving trips. The parties they have weekly on the beach with the locals is the best fun I have had in a long time. Go to Freeport & Port Lucaya for your vacation to the Bahamas, ... You won't regret it from someone who was just there last week!!!!
