No, four years after the fire that destroyed it, and despite numerous promises by the government to rebuild, the once "world-famous" straw market is "temporarily" located in a shabby tent structure behind the Hilton Hotel.

Although I like visiting the Straw Market I am inclined to agree with the shabby tent comment,it is a great pity that the Government of the Bahamas does'nt do anything about this.You would think that a tourist attraction of this caliber would take priority in the re-building process of the Bahamas tourism board,it could and should be a 1st class facility.Hope someone from the Government reads these messages

My husband and I were at the "Straw Market" last Novemeber. Quite something to see, BUT very , very crowded due to so many booths under one huge tent. very hot also

My daughter was just there on a Royal caribbean cruise for her honeymoon. She wanted to get a handmade straw bag/purse that said BAHAMA'S on it. When they came back through to buy a couple before returning tot their ship the shop/vendors were closed. I am looking for a website or way to purchase a couple. Any Advise ?

Hey i think that the straw market was a great source of income to the bahamas and it should be the governments top priority to rebuild as soon as possible. The make shift straw market is very congested and uncomfortable
