I've heard that the mosquitoes in the Bahamas are terrible. Just how much of a problem are they normally?

Mosquitoes should not be a problem in the Bahamas... unless you plan to walk around nude with chocolate syrup all over your body :)

That's not true, depending on the weather, wind and humidity, mosquitoes and noseeums can be a big problem in the bahamas, especially the out islands. If you are sensitive, you should make sure you use something like "skin so soft" on your ankles and shins. Especially at dusk.
In the out islands, you may need a Deet product, there are plenty out there.
Some people are sensitive,(me) and some are not (boyfriend) We can be in the same place at the same time and I'll be raw meat by the end of the day, and he's just fine.
Pack some benydrl or sting sticks just incase your bitten.
It shouldn't ruin your vacation. You'll find this in most of the caribbean.

If that's the case, anywhere that is highly forested and humid would have a mosquitoe problem. Therefore, the mosquito situation is no more or less of a problem than anywhere else in the world.
