I have not heard from anyone from my post many months ago as to any information on any orphanages or children's homes in Nassau, Bahamas. I did hear from some others that are looking for the same thing that I am. We want to know if there are any orphanages or children's homes in Nassau that we as caring cruisers, (people that come to the Bahamas on a cruise and would like to take items such as toys, clothes, shoes, personal care items, books, school suppies, or even special foods, or candy to children that are in need. My family and I along with many others do this in Roatan, Honduras and we even take puppets, and do puppet shows, sing special songs, play music, do games or a treasure hunt, get to know the children, give them some love and attention besides the things that we bring them. We can't get to Roatan very often, but we have been to Nassau 4 times in a year, and will be going again this summer. We would love to find somewhere that we can be of help when we go there. If anyone knows of any contact information concerning helping an orphanage, children's home, or even a way to help individual children, or a school, please let me know. Thank you very much! God bless!
Pam Campbell

Ms./Mrs Campbell,
The Bahamas is a very close knit community. Therefore, orphanages and children homes are not that prevalent in the Bahamas. However, there is a place called "The children emergency Hostel." Also, there is the Ranfurly Home for Children. Check the Bahamas Directory for listings and contact info.

Moreover, if you don’t mind working with children with mental disabilities, you can always go to "Sandilands." It would also do great good if you can visit the local hospital in the children’s ward (Princess Margaret Hospital).

Thank you for your concern. I just left the bahamas where I was on a missions trip. (7/14/06) There is an orphanage, a detention center and an aids hospital. I went through a group called "Mission Discovery". They have access to those in need. I have requested information from them as well. You can log on to their website at Mission Discovery.com. There is a phone number of their home office in Tenn. I am trying to put together some local help from NC. There is a huge need and mission discovery can put you in contact with a local minister who provides what he can for the refugees. God Bless you. Kelly

I see a post here from Feb. 14, 2005 by an anonymous tourist inquiring as to any orphanages or children's homes in Nassau, Bahamas that they could visit, help at, etc on their spring break. I see that no one answered their post. My family and I went to Roatan, Honduras this summer to CSI orphanage, and visited, did puppets, a treasure hunt for the kids, sang, and took over 500 pounds of boxes of toys, clothes, treats, books, etc. to help them out. They were really excited, but I think we recieved the biggest blessing, being able to bring the smiles to the kids faces! We have been to Nassau three times in the past year, and will be going again the first week of Jan. and again next summer. We really wish that we could find somewhere that we can help in Nassau, since we can get there alot more often than we can get to Honduras and we really want to help! Does anyone know of any information on orphanages or children's homes in Nassau? If so please let me know ASAP. Thanks!
