Any decent off-the-beaten path restaurants in the Paradise Island area? Don't want to leave the states just to eat at Chili's or Olive Garden. Looking for "Mama's Cafe" type of place. Has to be sanitary though. Also, how much do scooter rentals run? Thanks!

You won't find many "tings bahamian" on Paradise Island, but over the bridge in Nassau you'll find plenty of home cooking.
If you don't mind "chicken shack" cooking, you can just check under the bridge at Potter's Cay for local food. (Open air market with fresh fish and vegetables).
But for sit down restaurants, the Fish Fry at Arawak Cay will have what you are looking for. The Fish Fry is a village of small local restaurants located just west of downtown Nassau. Plenty of great food at great prices, with entertainment in the square on weekends.
Twin Brothers, Goldies, Seafood Haven, Deep Creek and Briland Lounge are on top of the list. There's a terrific Daiquiri bar (lillian's) and fresh conch salad made to order. It's the place to be.

Somebody left out the "Nesbit's" resturant and bar on Bay St. This is some serious non-tourist
hang out for the locals......It is not too far from the, or what used to be, The Zoo night club.

Of course, Arawak Cay, named after the indiginus Indians of the Island, is a great place to get all the local flavor, with "ADDED SECURITY"......
