I'm taking my wife to Paradise Island at the begininng of March and planning on staying at Paradise Island Harbour Resort (formally Holiday Inn Sunspree). I'm not expecting a 5-star resort, as it's relatively inexpensive compared to other resorts, but I do want to make sure it's a clean place to stay where we can relax. Has anybody stayed here lately and if so, can you share some feedback ? How close is it to the Atlantis---can you walk there ?
thanks

Its not that clean, was there, bathroom floors filthy, you can walk to the Atlantis no prob, the food isnt that great even in the nice restaurant, watch out for construction workers, they're everywhere and crime is rampant in the Bahamas even on paradise island, be very careful even with your drinks, men too, couples too, men should watch it, if criminals are after your wife they go for the man first. do not take any rides with anyone, dont go to the wyndham with anyone, they will try to sell you a bunk holiday hotel package thingie. watch out for all other tourists, do some research the crime is so bad now its unbelievable, take her somewhere else safe, watch the beaches dont let her go alone, hope this helps its the truth

Gina.. you're paranoid..
Nassau/Paradise Island and Cable Beach are no more crime ridden than any other city worldwide.

You can walk safely almost anywhere in the tourist areas. Downtown Nassau is mostly closed at nite, but you can walk along the wharf well into the nite. Lots of police as well.

You sound like you have a bone to pick.

Tamara, you are famous for being a defender of tourism in the Bahamas. You, or you family, make a living on Bahamas tourism, I'll bet.

Gina's comments are accurate and if you live in Nassau you know that. If you are honest, you will admit it.

Read the daily newspapers.

Just yesterday, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ellison Greenslade, expressed concerns over the "unprecedented" number of murders. Rapes and armed robberies are also a problem.

All of us in The Bahamas want people to visit, that is our livelihood. The first step towards achieving that is to show potential visitors that we are honest, decent people with a sincere interest in their safety and their having a good time.

Lying to people, or calling them "paranoid" when their concerns are real, is not getting off to a very good start.

So, let's be honest. Crime IS a problem here. However, it is being dealt with as efficiently and as expediently as possible. We are not dummies. We know crime is bad for tourism and you can bet your last conch shell that the best and brightest of us are working to solve the problem ASAP!

Hopefully, people will maintain their confidence in our destination as we work to solve our internal problems.

It might be remembered that The Bahamas has provided memorable vacations to MILLIONS and MILLIONS of people over the last thirty years. We have no intention of allowing our beauitful islands to suffer at the hands of a few senseless criminals.

These are crimes against other bahamians.. NOT tourists. Crimes against tourist are few and far between.
This information could be written about any city .. anywhere. The bahamas is no different. That's my point. Visitors should be as careful in the Bahamas as they would visiting any other major city.

And no.. I don't work for bahamian tourism.

Crime is crime. However, your point about being careful ANYWHERE in today's crazy world is sound advice.

Hello all,

I sincerely appreciate all your participation on our message forums. However, BahamasB2B.com already provides other forums for these types of discussions. This is not the place for such conversations.

These particular forums are for the purposes of answering specific tourist questions, not to dicuss the sociological aspects of Bahamian society. :)

For those deep level conversations, try our Discussion Forums or head on over to the Bahamas Community Forums.

Thanks,

To Whom it May Concern,

I wrote the following letter to the manager, Mr. Davis of the Paradise Island Harbour Resort in Nassau, Bahamas over a week ago and have yet to hear anything from him, his hotel, the island, Expedia, Bahamas travel website, or even an apology. This is for your use as you deem fit to proceed in announcing and informing the public of what they can expect if they travel to this island, use Expedia, and/or visit this hotel.

Dear Mr. Davis,

We recently stayed at your hotel from Thursday, April 20, 2006 - Monday, April 24, 2006 for our 3rd anniversary trip. We flew in from Houston, Texas and we must say we were very, very disappointed in the quality of the room, the reception/service when asking for help, the destruction of the hotel allowed by your 'spring breakers' staying there, the broken equipment in the room we received, AND the rudeness of various staff members including your front desk lobby.

I found the front desk personnel overly rude, equipment within my room was broke. We had a broken remote control (although it probably just needed batteries and a broken TV with just the ESPN channel – strangely enough - half was blacked out and half was visible). The hotel staff, when one could be found, were either unconcerned with the issue brought to them or offered no resolution or answer to address the issue.

On the one of the first nights there we suffered through a 'fire alarm' which had been pulled on the 11th floor by one of your 'spring breakers,' which apparently for reasons unknown to anyone but the hotel staff, had to remain on for on complete hour. ONE COMPLETE HOUR!

On another night, we had spring breakers pound on everyone's door up and down the hallway, put "holes" in the ceiling of the hallways and throwing around various food groups.

There will not be another vacation to your hotel at Paradise Harbour Resort repeated by me, my husband, my company, and/or any of the clients that I have and work with that care to know of your hotel and service.

I am appalled that a hotel of your reputation, name, and status would be allowed to offer these sub-standard rooms, service, or personnel. Shame on your manager, hotel owner, Expedia for recommending your hotel/inclusive package (which I intend to write as well) and the Bahamas Tourist Director and Official Ambassador Office and/or whomever holds the bottom line on this particular hotel domain.

I am forwarding a copy of this email to all relevant parties from Expedia, any media online or press that will pick it up and the Hotel Rating Services that I can find listed online.

Respectfully Submitted,

Kimberly Fontenot
