My family is stopping at Nassau for one day in early May during a cruise. We have a five year old son and would like to spend our time at the beach. We're considering Cabbage, Cable, or Love beach. Our son isn't really ready for snorkeling, so mainly we're looking for a safe place for sunning and swimming.

Any suggestions with regard to ease of transportation, ease of access, and services (food, restrooms) at these beaches? Any of these, or a different one, that you would recommend?

What would be the best mode of transportation from the cruise ship terminal and back?

Thank you very much.

Cable Beach is across town from the cruise docks. You could jitney (bus) there, or take a taxi.

Jitneys cost $1.00 per person each way. A taxi would be about $18 (for three people) each way.

Love Beach is considerably further and not recommended for a quick day trip.

What I'd do, if I were you, is head to Cabbage Beach on Paradise Island. It is, by far, the nicest beach in the Nassau/Paradise Island area.

Also, the easiest to get to from the cruise docks.

Simply get off your cruise ship and taxi to Paradise Island for about $12.00 - $15.00 (one way). The taxi driver can drop you off right at the walkway to the beach.

Or, head to the water taxi dock, located just west of the cruise dock and Prince George Welcome Center.

Water taxis to Paradise Island cost $6.00 round-trip, per person. The trip takes 10 minutes and is a fun diversion.

Of course, you would still have to walk to the beach from the spot on PI where the water taxi drops you off. It is about 1/2 mile, very nice walk around the perimeter of Atlantis.

While on PI, do visit the Bahamas Crafts Centre, where you'll find Bahamian-made crafts and souveniers.

Hope that helps.
