What the heck is a casino doing on Cat Island ?? One of the reasons to go there is to escape all the insanity/commercialism of the bigger islands. Please tell me what's happening !??

We own a small home in the Greenwood Estates and have been watching with interest developments on Cat. Having seen the plans for the 'Casino' project it would indicate that in phase one it will have two towers containing 240 hotel rooms bookending a small casino. Phase two will consist of very large, possibly single homes along a stretch of beach extending on either side of the casino site.
There would seem that at this time some great hurdles to overcome none the least of which is the movement of the massive amounts of material required for such a project and the lack of a good infrastructure. Looking forward there needs to be considerable work on the airfield as well, none of which will happen overnight.
The location of this development is at the far south end and on the ocean side of the island. It is my humble opinion that it will be 'many moons' before there is significant impact on the Cat Island culture and lifestyles.
Please go and enjoy the island, it is a wonderful peaceful and friendly place. We only wish the best for those inhabitants who represent generations of good God fearing folks.

Based upon the articles I have read, the developers want to keep the island pristine and emphasize the "Spa" more so than the casino. They allegedly want to cater to(wealthy) people who appreciate Cat the way it is, and not to the Nassau crowd.

I hope that this is true because I don't ever want Cat to become like Nassau or Freeport.

I agree with the previous post, whatever development is coming, is will not be soon.
