Hello, I am from Bearden Arkansas USA. I am so sorry to here about the damage that Francis left at Free Port. I had reservations at Viva Fortuna for 9/21/04 to 9/28/04 but the resort advised they will be closed the rest of the year due to hurricane damage. I would like to vacation in Free Port and have an oportunity to exchange for Island Seas Resort but I can not reach them by phone or e-mail. If I could reach them and verify that the resort is able to receive guests and have safe water and utilities I would use my air line tickets as previously planned, however I do not know what to do. Can you help?

Sorry, I am not familiar with the Island Seas Resort and therefore can not recommend it, even in good times.

Further, they either are not members of The Bahamas Hotel Association, or they did not respond to the damage assessment survey sent out to every hotel in The Bahamas.

I do know that Freeport is pretty torn up and is expected to be "under repair" for at least a few more weeks. However, the airport IS accepting some flights and cruise ships have already begun to return.

It is my understanding that Island Seas Resort had very little damage as a result of the hurricane, however, most of the island still does not have electricity or phone service. From what I have learned from those on the island, it may take 4 weeks and more in some areas for electricity to be restored. Right now, the only flights that are coming into Freeport are those Bahamasair flights that are bringing in supplies and additional personnel to assist with restoration. The Discovery Cruise ship did resume their daily trips, but I don't know whether they are bringing tourists in or not since so many of the hotels/timeshares are not open for business at this time. It is also important that you continue to check on the status of Tropical Storm Jeanne, which is currently on a path toward the Bahamas, unfortunately.

You might also check out Island Seas website which is www.islandseas.com to get more information about their condition and also a phone number that you can call to reach them. Hope this helps you.
