BTC in 11th Hour Talks With Cable and Wireless

Cable & Wireless Communications remains “the only show in town” for BTC,  a Guardian Businesssource has revealed, but no proposal for the telephone monopoly has yet been officially tabled.

Since the government-appointed Bahamas Telecommunications Company’s (BTC) privatization committee rejected bids from two shortlisted finalists – the JP Morgan/Vodafone combination, plus the Atlantic Tele-Network/CFAL partnership – talks have continued with C&W, which operates in 13 countries in the Caribbean under the trademark Lime.

Those 11th hour talks were a surprise since last year the company turned down the chance to bid despite being one of the government’s top picks. However since then C&W has split into two entities with the international consumer telecoms side demerging from the business telecoms side, and with Cable&Wireless Communications forming in March.
