A teacher accused of having sex with a student has been ordered to present a defense to the charge.

Thomas Nottage is on trial for allegedly having sex with a student of Faith Temple Christian Academy while he was a teacher there.

Magistrate Linda Virgill has decided that prosecutors have produced sufficient evidence for Nottage to answer the allegation against him.

Nottage, who is represented by Dwayne Hanna, returns to court on November 11.

In other court news, Craig Laing will have to be tried again on charges that he had sex with a 13-year-old girl.

Supreme Court Justice Vera Watkins ordered the new trial after the nine-member jury failed to reach a majority verdict and the foreman said it was unlikely that they would.

Laing is accused of having sex with the teen, who is now an adult, in June 2000. He remains on bail pending the retrial.
