MP Claims Generation Property Has led To Theft

Mr. Davis told the House of Assembly yesterday that many Bahamians today are are 'handicapped because their interest in land is not marketable.'

Cat Island and San Salvador MP Philip Davis has called for a select committee to investigate generation property, which he claims has led to theft, fraud, squatting and other major problems throughout the country.

Mr. Davis told the House of Assembly yesterday that many Bahamians today are are 'handicapped because their interest in land is not marketable.'

He said that because they may not have deed papers for the property they cannot use it as capital if they went to the bank.

Mr. Davis said that land is the wealth of any nation and historically forms the basis of the economy. The rightful owners of land should be able to maximise the land's economic value, he said.
