ARTIST'S STATEMENT:
I have worked as an artist since the age of twenty. Since about 25 years I have been spending about four to six months in Pietrasanta, Italy, where I carve stone. The rest of the time I travel to far away places where I can find a culture I can identify with and paint.

  • Australia: Painting on an aboriginal community of Yuendumu and Alice Spring
  • Drove across the Sahara Desert in search of rock cultures and the Dogon People in Bandiagara.
  • Visited the Yanomamis in Amazonia, Bofi
  • Stayed in the four corners region to connect with the Anasazis culture, their rock paintings and their architecture.

Rock painting is one of my influences in my creative approach as you will be aware consulting my Internet site. The past allows me to jump forward with more confidence. Developing my work goes two ways: provoking an idea and the work being receptive to accident, giving freedom to spontaneity.

I use calligraphy on my paintings and marble to communicate ideas. Calligraphy is so close to the graffiti's of rock paintings.

Natural pigment is my medium. It keeps me closer to the earth. To the reality of nature (a kind of a "bio-painting" in a way if we want to use super market new trends). I create my own little scenarios on real facts that I have lives. I am very much in the mondialisation of culture (multi-cultural). It brings a breath of fresh air to our own. It helps to develop some new fields. A symbiosis of different cultures will enrich our antique and traditional culture. Mind you, I believe very much in traditions. Roots are still the foundations of any culture.

I never work with a percussive idea. It kills the surprise that can happen when you develop that same idea. I found very good stimulation in a playful approach. Stop analyzing if you are doing well or bad do not intellectualize what should be spontaneous. It kills the freshness of the work and frustrates the child that is within you. In another way, let the critics write on your work and go back to work it is much more fun.
