Nassau, Bahamas \u2013 A total of 937 candidates received at least grade ‘C’ in five or more subjects in 2011 compared to 921 in 2010, representing a 1.73 per cent increase.<\/p>\n
The announcement was made during a press conference held on Wednesday, August 3 at the Ministry of Education.<\/p>\n
“We want you (the public) to know precisely where our students’ strengths and weaknesses lie and who and where the improvements have taken place during the past year or years,” said Minister of Education, the Hon. T. Desmond Bannister.<\/p>\n
Commending the staff of the Examinations and Assessment Division, parents, guardians and teachers, the Ministry expressed gratitude for the hard work exhibited by all concerned.<\/p>\n
“Concerned parents, guardians and other family members also deserve recognition for the part they have played in guiding students towards academic success,” said Mr. Bannister. “Often their active involvement in their children’s learning process has prevented our students from losing sight of their academic goals.”<\/p>\n
Mr. Bannister also pointed out that there was a decrease in candidates sitting national exams in 2011. “Approximately 923 candidates were registered to sit examinations for the 10 subjects offered. This represents a 7.06 per cent decrease when compared to 2011.” The candidates came from 70 independent\/private centres and 53 government schools. He said that the decline is a result of fewer candidates from government senior high schools.<\/p>\n
Minister Bannister also said that 10 schools who participated in the Pilot Online Registration Project will be able to view their results online as of August 5.<\/p>\n
Specific instruction scan be obtained from the schools that participated. Next, it is envisaged that all schools that have the capacity to register via the internet will be accommodated.<\/p>\n
