{"id":115402,"date":"2015-05-18T08:09:45","date_gmt":"2015-05-18T12:09:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=115402"},"modified":"2015-05-18T08:09:46","modified_gmt":"2015-05-18T12:09:46","slug":"btvi-fashion-students-to-create-beauty-queen-designs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2015\/05\/btvi-fashion-students-to-create-beauty-queen-designs","title":{"rendered":"BTVI Fashion Students To Create Beauty Queen Designs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"button insert-media add_media\" title=\"Add Media\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-admin\/post-new.php#\" data-editor=\"content\"><span class=\"wp-media-buttons-icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-115403\" alt=\"btvi-miss-universe\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/btvi-miss-universe.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/btvi-miss-universe.jpg 375w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/btvi-miss-universe-112x150.jpg 112w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/btvi-miss-universe-187x250.jpg 187w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/span><\/a>Fashion Design students of The Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI) will have an opportunity of a lifetime this summer when they showcase their talents during the Miss Bahamas Organization\u2019s (MBO) Top Model competition.<\/p>\n<p>Dubbed Fashion in the Sky, the competition slated for August 8th, 2015, is one of the preliminary events of the Miss Universe Bahamas and Miss World Bahamas pageants.<\/p>\n<p>Each pageant contestant will be paired with a current or former BTVI student during one of the fashion show scenes.<\/p>\n<p>MBO\u2019s Director of Media Relations, Jerome Sawyer said while there will be judges to find the top model among contestants, there will also be judges to find the top designs on the runway.\u00a0 A winner, along with first and second runners-up will be chosen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fashion show will be held in an airplane hangar at the airport around a plane.\u00a0 Just think of the excitement it generates.\u00a0 Anything we do as an organization, we do big,\u201d stressed Mr. Sawyer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn another five years, people will be clamoring to come to Top Model to see what BTVI will showcase. See this as an opportunity to have this on your resume.\u00a0 Designers, to this day, still list their affiliation with former beauty queens on their resumes,\u201d he told students.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Sawyer first saw students\u2019 work during BTVI\u2019s Pre-Valentine\u2019s Day Soiree in February when he was the Master of Ceremony. What he saw captivated him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI saw a unique opportunity. I was impressed with the level of work from BTVI\u2019s fashion students.\u00a0 I thought it was a great opportunity to give them exposure to provide pieces for contestants and eventually title holders,\u201d said Mr. Sawyer.<\/p>\n<p>This is MBO\u2019s 10th year of existence and according to Mr. Sawyer, the organization is determined to change its focus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the past, we were looking for sponsorship.\u00a0 In this evolving world, we\u2019re looking for partnerships.\u00a0 It\u2019s a lasting partnership.\u00a0 In some instances, you can\u2019t put a monetary value on partnerships,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>The winner and runners-up will each design three to four signature pieces and be paired with Miss World Bahamas, Miss Universe Bahamas or her first runner-up, Miss Earth Bahamas. Each queen will reserve one of the pieces for an international competition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf your gown goes to Miss Universe, Miss World or Miss Earth, do you know what bragging rights you have?\u00a0 And remember, they have to take a month\u2019s worth of clothing with them.\u00a0 Every day, she\u2019s out there, whether it\u2019s an auction, tour of the city or rehearsal. Whatever she wears gets attention.\u00a0 We want to offer that opportunity to you,\u201d said Mr. Sawyer.<\/p>\n<p>BTVI and MBO have been affiliated before as the 2013 Miss Universe Bahamas, Lexi Wilson, received a scholarship grant to the institution. Also, Miss Universe Bahamas 2014, Tomacina Culmer is a former Auto Mechanics student at BTVI in Grand Bahama.<\/p>\n<p>BTVI senior craft instructor Kathy Pinder expressed excitement over the possibilities the arrangement will bring for the institution and MBO.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will give students exposure.\u00a0 This is a way to be discovered,\u201d she said of the mutually beneficial relationship.<\/p>\n<p>BTVI 2006 Fashion Design graduate Trineil Hanna is presently working on his sketches and sees this as a wonderful prospect, stating that it\u2019s another step to put BTVI students on the map.
