On Wednesday, July 22, U.S. Charg\u00e9 d\u2019Affaires a.i. Lisa Johnson hosted a roundtable discussion at Liberty Overlook with Bahamian women in law enforcement and the justice sector.<\/p>\n
The meeting, facilitated by the Embassy\u2019s International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Section, included women leaders from the Ministry of National Security, Royal Bahamas Police Force, Bahamas Customs Department, Department of Immigration, Bahamas Department of Correctional Services, and the Office of the Attorney General.\u00a0 The dialogue provided a forum to discuss challenges and opportunities unique to women in law enforcement in The Bahamas, the United States, and worldwide.<\/p>\n
Charg\u00e9 Johnson engaged roundtable participants\u2014most of whom had more than 20 years of experience in the field\u2014on a number of topics including the importance of women in preventing\/resolving conflict and building peace; issues surrounding hiring, promoting, and retaining women in law enforcement; enhancing the image of women in law enforcement and the community; promoting the value of communication, collaboration, and credibility in leadership styles; juggling professional and personal demands unique to women; and creating collaborative approaches to realize gender-sensitive approaches to law enforcement.<\/p>\n
Charg\u00e9 Johnson concluded the event by thanking the female law enforcement officers assembled for their work as equal partners in addressing shared transnational security challenges.<\/p>\n
