{"id":14338,"date":"2011-10-28T00:55:22","date_gmt":"2011-10-28T04:55:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=14338"},"modified":"2011-10-28T00:55:22","modified_gmt":"2011-10-28T04:55:22","slug":"seven-ships-in-nassau-harbour-sets-new-record","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2011\/10\/seven-ships-in-nassau-harbour-sets-new-record","title":{"rendered":"Seven Ships in Nassau Harbour Sets New Record"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_14339\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14339\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-14339\" title=\"nassau port\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/nassau-port-250x166.jpg\" alt=\"Nassau Port\" width=\"250\" height=\"166\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14339\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Seven ships docked in Nassau Port<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>For the first time in history, Nassau jammed seven massive cruise ships into its port yesterday, as three vessels were diverted and sought refuge from Hurricane Rina.<\/p>\n<p>More than 25,000 people flooded downtown Nassau, creating a surge in business for taxi drivers and local busineses.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Seven ships of this size is a first for our port,&#8221; said Carla Stewart, the Director of Cruise Development.<\/p>\n<p>Harbor pilots, Captain Eugene Munroe, Captain Rolle and Captain Taylor squeezed the ships into the port showing a high degree of skill and accuracy.<\/p>\n<p>The seven ships docked at Nassau Port included Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Celebrity and four Carnival vessels.<\/p>\n<p>Carla Stewart, Director of Cruise Development, said the dockings came with the collaboration and approval of both the Ministry of Tourism and Aviation and the Ministry of Environment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There were many persons on the pier who were anxious to see if the seventh vessel would make it in,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was a sight to see. They were almost touching each other &#8211; that&#8217;s how close they were and the degree of accuracy for the harbor pilots.
