Andros, The Bahamas \u2013 Residents of Central Andros clapped as a sign of approval as the Government executed a $1,738.490 contract for reconstruction of the Fresh Creek Dock in Central Andros to Knowles Construction Co. Ltd.<\/p>\n

Public Works and Transport Minister Neko C. Grant said the Fresh Creek Dock will be totally reconstructed with installation of new sheet piling, concrete slab dock paving, renovations to the Dock Master\u2019s building, construction of a timber dock for fishing vessels, solar lighting, fencing, and drainage wells. The existing Customs and Administration building will also be refurbished.<\/p>\n

Minister Grant said the reconstruction of the Fresh Creek Dock is one of three major projects that have been planned for execution through a $10.1 million loan agreement between the Government of The Bahamas and the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).<\/p>\n

The other projects are rehabilitation of the Deep and Little Creek Bridges in South Andros and re-construction of Three Island Dock in North Eleuthera.<\/p>\n

Among those witnessing the event at the Lighthouse Yacht Club Wednesday was Minister of State for Local Government the Hon. Byron Woodside, Permanent Secretary Colin Higgs, Director John Canton, Project Engineer Dion Munroe and area Engineer Garnett Campbell.<\/p>\n

Also present were Local Government Officials including Sr. Deputy Administrator Oscar Munroe, heads of government departments, leaders of the religious community and members of the Central Andros Junior Council. Participants included Khanja Edgecombe, a student of Central Andros High School.<\/p>\n

Mr. Grant thanked the CDB, the staff of the Ministry of Finance and the staff of the Ministry of Lands and Local Government for their support in planning the project. He also acknowledged the technical team including Mr. Munroe for their efforts in advancing the project to its present stage.<\/p>\n

He congratulated Emille Knowles on the award of the contract. \u201cKnowles Construction brings many years of experience in the execution of public and private sector projects. We therefore look forward to the successful completion of the proposed works within the allotted timeframe,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Minister Woodside termed the event an \u201chistoric\u201d signing. He said although Local Government has not had capital funds to use within districts in three years, major works are still being carried out throughout the islands by Central Government.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe people\u2019s money is being used for the betterment of the people. Today it\u2019s all about Andros,\u201d Minister Woodside added.<\/p>\n
