{"id":146552,"date":"2016-02-24T08:33:07","date_gmt":"2016-02-24T13:33:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=146552"},"modified":"2016-02-24T08:33:41","modified_gmt":"2016-02-24T13:33:41","slug":"womens-basketball-association-off-to-a-great-dunk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2016\/02\/womens-basketball-association-off-to-a-great-dunk","title":{"rendered":"Women\u2019s Basketball Association Off to a Great Dunk!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-146553\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/water-sewerage-bahamas-basketball.jpg\" alt=\"water-sewerage-bahamas-basketball\" width=\"550\" height=\"325\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/water-sewerage-bahamas-basketball.jpg 550w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/water-sewerage-bahamas-basketball-150x89.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/water-sewerage-bahamas-basketball-250x148.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Nassau, Bahamas \u2013 Basketball is one of many great ways to play your way to success, and the Water and Sewerage Corporation (WSC) is leading the way by jump-starting Nassau\u2019s newest women\u2019s basketball league.\u00a0 The league is being spearheaded by one of WSC\u2019s very own and is a great way to showcase more of the country\u2019s female basketball talent.<\/p>\n<p>WSC\u2019s Employee Relations Manager, Mynez Cargill- Sherman, who reached out to the Corporation and its partners Miya Bahamas and Consolidated Water for sponsorship, is spearheading the newly-formed women\u2019s junior basketball league.\u00a0 WSC\u2019s sponsorship will be helping the league to get started and encourage and support young women as they show off their basketball skills.<\/p>\n<p>The league officially launched in early February at the D.W. Davis Gymnasium where former Deputy Prime Minister, Cynthia &#8216;Mother&#8217; Pratt gave the opening address.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe continued to see young women who may have a GPA of 2.50 to 3.3, but that GPA would not qualify them for an academic scholarship.\u201d Mynez Cargill-Sherman explained, \u201cHowever, if they have the ability to play basketball, it can create an avenue for obtaining higher learning via a basketball scholarship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cargill-Sherman felt that the introduction of a junior basketball division for young ladies aged 11-18 was ideal as there is currently a call for more student-athletes.\u00a0 WSC General Manager, Glen Laville, agreed, hence WSC\u2019s decision to be the main sponsor for the league.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Corporation is pleased to support this newly formed young women&#8217;s basketball league,\u201d said Visna Armbrister, WSC Public Affairs Manager.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn doing so, the Corporation hopes that it would encourage young women to continue to engage in positive activities and make the best of their God-given talents recognizing that the \u2018sky is the limit\u2019 and that they should continue to stay focused and work hard to achieve their life&#8217;s goals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All games will be played at the D.W.
