{"id":14941,"date":"2011-11-11T10:00:02","date_gmt":"2011-11-11T15:00:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=14941"},"modified":"2011-11-11T10:23:15","modified_gmt":"2011-11-11T15:23:15","slug":"homeland-security-secretary%e2%80%99s-remarks-at-cbsi-dialogue-in-the-bahamas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2011\/11\/homeland-security-secretary%e2%80%99s-remarks-at-cbsi-dialogue-in-the-bahamas","title":{"rendered":"Homeland Security Secretary\u2019s Remarks at CBSI Dialogue In The Bahamas"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_14954\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14954\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14954\" title=\"homeland-security\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/homeland-security.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/homeland-security.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/homeland-security-150x112.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14954\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano traveled to Nassau, The Bahamas on Nov. 9-10, to deliver the keynote address at the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI) Dialogue and meet with Bahamian Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham to underscore the Obama administration\u2019s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and facilitating trade and tourism.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe United States and The Bahamas share a strong relationship built on our common interests in bolstering security, strengthening democracy and promoting trade and cultural exchange,\u201d said Secretary Napolitano. \u201cThis dialogue is an opportunity for us to recommit to the continued cooperation that is necessary to address transnational threats that impact our nations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During her remarks, Secretary Napolitano reiterated the administration\u2019s dedication to the security of the Caribbean Basin and the main goals of the CBSI\u2014reducing illicit trafficking, increasing public safety and security, and promoting social justice.<\/p>\n<p>DHS works with Caribbean nations through the World Customs Organization on Program Global Shield, an initiative to protect the global supply chain by preventing the illegal theft or diversion of precursor chemicals that are often exploited to make improvised explosive devices. Currently, more than 60 countries participate in Program Global Shield, sharing information regarding the export of 14 precursor chemicals.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, DHS is continuing to enhance border security in the region through U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), conducting border security training with Caribbean nations to increase their capacity to secure their borders.
