{"id":17143,"date":"2012-01-23T09:05:13","date_gmt":"2012-01-23T14:05:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=17143"},"modified":"2012-01-23T09:05:13","modified_gmt":"2012-01-23T14:05:13","slug":"incompetent-prosecutors-delay-sentencing-of-rapist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2012\/01\/incompetent-prosecutors-delay-sentencing-of-rapist","title":{"rendered":"Incompetent Prosecutors Delay Sentencing of Rapist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The sentencing of convicted rapist Eric O&#8217;Neil Strachan was postponed a third time due to prosecutorial incompetence, or corruption.<\/p>\n<p>This time, the excuse was because a psychiatric report was still  lacking.\u00a0 A new hearing has been scheduled for February 22.<\/p>\n<p>Senior Justice Hartman Longley, who presided over the rape trial last September, initially set sentencing for November 11, 2010.<\/p>\n<p>At the hearing, Strachan&#8217;s attorney Devard Williams requested a  psychiatric evaluation of his client and the judge adjourned sentencing  to November 29, 2010.<\/p>\n<p>At the second hearing, prosecutors informed the court that the  psychiatric report was still not complete and the matter was adjourned  to yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Strachan was found guilty of raping a 69-year-old woman at Eight Mile  Rock last December. He was also found him guilty of two counts of  attempted rape and one count of indecent assault.<\/p>\n<p>The victim was staying with a relative in Andros Town, Eight Mile Rock, on December 10, 2010 when the incident occurred.<\/p>\n<p>The woman testified that Strachan dragged her from a living room sofa to his bedroom and raped her.<\/p>\n<p>At trial, Strachan denied raping the victim.
