C. V. Bethel Senior High School took first place in the Concert Section of the BahamArts Festival\u2019s Battle of the Bands contest.<\/p>\n
But it was the Police Youth Cadet Band which won the hearts of the judges in the Marching Section.<\/p>\n
The Battle of the Bands is a popular contest between youth bands from throughout the islands at the annual year-end BahamArts Festival in Nassau.<\/p>\n
All winning groups were given musical instruments as prizes.<\/p>\n
The festival, which also features Bahamian craft production, is hosted by the Handicraft Development and Marketing Department of Bahamas Agricultural and Industrial Corporation.<\/p>\n
Pictured above during awards presentation last Thursday are winners and, (from left, seated), Lester Stuart (BAIC, Business Services Department), Supt Ronald Campbell (Battle of the Bands), Patricia Bazard (co-chairperson), Donnalee Bowe (AGM, Handicraft Development and Marketing Department), Cleveland Williams (Ministry of Tourism) and Robert Pantry (manager, Royal Bank of Canada, Main Branch).<\/p>\n
The following are the official results in order: Concert Section – C. V. Bethel Senior High School; C. R. Walker Senior High School; Police Youth Cadet Band; H. O. Nash Junior High School.<\/p>\n
Marching Section: Police Youth Cadet Band; Exuma Community Band; North Eleuthera Community Band; C. R. Walker Senior High tied; H. O. Nash Junior High.<\/p>\n
Best Booth Awards: Shenique McKenzie (Unique Bahamian Straw Bags); Dot Miller (Dot’s Collections); Alice Kolp (Alice Kolp’s Craft & Design).<\/p>\n
Best Product Awards: Celestine Albury (Celestine Woodcarvings); Anastasia Johnson (Anastasia’s Craft); April Martin (Sea Shell Art).<\/p>\n
Best Handicraft Association Booth: YUMA Arts, Exuma.
