{"id":21484,"date":"2012-05-08T11:35:21","date_gmt":"2012-05-08T15:35:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=21484"},"modified":"2012-05-08T11:35:21","modified_gmt":"2012-05-08T15:35:21","slug":"marketing-top-priority-for-caribbean-hoteliers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2012\/05\/marketing-top-priority-for-caribbean-hoteliers","title":{"rendered":"Marketing Top Priority for Caribbean Hoteliers"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_16738\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16738\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-16738\" title=\"atlantis-resort\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/atlantis-resort-250x187.jpg\" alt=\"atlantis resort\" width=\"250\" height=\"187\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-16738\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Atlantis Resort on Paradise island<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The  Caribbean region needs marketing power, and it needs it now, according  to panelists speaking on Monday\u2019s \u201cHotel Leaders Speak Out\u201d general  session to open the Caribbean Hotel &amp; Resort Investment Summit.<\/p>\n<p>Facing a long climb out of a rut exacerbated by the  recession, the region is in desperate need of a cooperative program to  attract new visitors, which will enable hoteliers to improve bottom-line  goals, the panelists said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lack of airlift remains a concern<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As is the norm when discussing challenges facing the Caribbean  region, the lack of sufficient airlift was part of the conversation  Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLift is a big issue,\u201d said <span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">Steve Joyce, president and CEO of Choice Hotels International.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>George Markantonis of Kerzner International Bahamas said airlift is the biggest issue facing  the region, and it\u2019s going to be more of an issue when Baha Mar, a  $3.4-billion resort with about 2,500 rooms that is under construction in  the Bahamas, opens in late 2014.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need 500,000 more arrivals a year to sustain both  properties, and we don\u2019t want to wait until 2015 (to start looking for  more airlift),\u201d he said, adding that the two properties have teamed up  in their quest. \u201cWe\u2019re visiting one airline after another, showing the  data, showing the budgets.
