{"id":22807,"date":"2012-06-19T10:52:20","date_gmt":"2012-06-19T14:52:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=22807"},"modified":"2012-06-19T10:52:20","modified_gmt":"2012-06-19T14:52:20","slug":"tourism-contract-investigation-intensifies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2012\/06\/tourism-contract-investigation-intensifies","title":{"rendered":"Tourism Contract Investigation Intensifies"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_20156\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20156\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-20156\" title=\"vincent-vanderpool-wallace\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/vincent-vanderpool-wallace.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/vincent-vanderpool-wallace.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/vincent-vanderpool-wallace-150x112.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-20156\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Office of the Prime Minister has taken over an investigation relating to a lucrative tourism marketing contract that was awarded by and eventually canceled by the previous administration, according to Minister of Tourism Obie Wilchcombe.<\/p>\n<p>Wilchcombe said the government has also engaged the services of an accounting firm to look into the matter.<\/p>\n<p>The foreign company that got the marketing contract was allegedly brought to the Ministry of Tourism by then Minister of Tourism Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace, according to documents from the Ministry of Tourism.<\/p>\n<p>According to the documents previously made public by The Nassau Guardian, Vanderpool-Wallace had become locked in a war with the most senior officials of the Ministry of Tourism over the contract.<\/p>\n<p>The documents show that he ignored their advice to terminate the contract even though those senior officials determined that taxpayers were not getting value for money.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry entered into the marketing contract with the American company in August 2010.
