{"id":23125,"date":"2012-06-27T11:20:58","date_gmt":"2012-06-27T15:20:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=23125"},"modified":"2012-06-27T12:51:41","modified_gmt":"2012-06-27T16:51:41","slug":"grand-bahama-police-enforcing-ignored-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2012\/06\/grand-bahama-police-enforcing-ignored-law","title":{"rendered":"Grand Bahama Police Enforcing &#8216;Ignored&#8217; Law"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-23126\" title=\"seatbelt-law-buckle\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/seatbelt-law-buckle.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/seatbelt-law-buckle.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/seatbelt-law-buckle-150x112.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>Police chief Kenwood Taylor, head of the Traffic Division, along with several other senior officers were at the Ranfurly Circus in an effort to enforce the seatbelt law.<\/p>\n<p>More than 1,000 flyers were distributed to the motorists as the officers checked to make sure their seatbelts were buckled.<\/p>\n<p>With school just recently closed, the police&#8217;s biggest concern is the large amount of students and other pedestrians on the road.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We want to encourage motorists to buckle up, obey the speed limits and just drive with the utmost caution,&#8221; said Taylor.<\/p>\n<p>Last year between January to June, there were 483 accidents and 110 injuries, however this year there has been 407 accidents but 133 with injuries.<\/p>\n<p>Taylor said he believed that the number of injuries increased because persons were not wearing their seatbelts.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are extremely pleased with this road check, 98 percent of people were wearing their seatbelt and we feel that the message is getting out,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>Along with checking for seatbelts, the officers were also looking for unlicensed cars.<\/p>\n<p>Taylor explained that sometimes persons go above and beyond the required time for licensing their cars and he insisted that this was a big &#8220;no-no.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They drive them unlicensed, uninspected and uninsured,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Commissioner of Police Ellison E. Greenslade&#8217;s plan for 2012 is to use the road blocks as a way of seeking to deal with persons who are blatantly disobeying the rules of the road.<\/p>\n<p>The police would like to remind the public that driving without a seatbelt is against the law.
