{"id":23183,"date":"2012-06-28T06:50:10","date_gmt":"2012-06-28T10:50:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=23183"},"modified":"2012-06-27T22:54:56","modified_gmt":"2012-06-28T02:54:56","slug":"christie-says-people-to-decide-on-lottery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2012\/06\/christie-says-people-to-decide-on-lottery","title":{"rendered":"Christie Says People To Decide On Lottery"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_23186\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23186\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-23186\" title=\"lottery\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/lottery.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/lottery.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/lottery-150x112.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-23186\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">lottery cards<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>NASSAU, The Bahamas &#8212; Prime Minister Perry Gladstone Christie said the Bahamian people must decide whether or not to create a national lottery in The Bahamas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce the people decide, public policy will govern itself accordingly,\u201d Prime Minister Christie told participants in the Ministry of Finance Budget 2012\/13 Budget Symposium at the Sheraton Cable Beach, Wednesday, June 27, 2012.<\/p>\n<p>The symposium was geared toward Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Department in the Public Service.<\/p>\n<p>The Prime Minister said he met with the Christian Council, which presented significant concerns about the revenue options the Government is considering, which include creating a national lottery and\/or the web shop operations, as they currently exist.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe major parties agreed that they will put it to a referendum; and that is significant because we cannot continue to institutionalise hypocrisy in the governance of The Bahamas,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do not have the timidity of a politician when it comes to the decision-making that I am just going to put it to the Bahamian people to make a decision.
