{"id":239686,"date":"2002-10-07T12:27:16","date_gmt":"2002-10-07T16:27:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=239686"},"modified":"2021-02-14T09:00:50","modified_gmt":"2021-02-14T14:00:50","slug":"zns-14m-in-the-red","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2002\/10\/zns-14m-in-the-red","title":{"rendered":"ZNS &#8220;$14M In the Red&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ZNS is $14 million in debt because of bad decisions and poor management, according to Obie Wilchcombe, the Minister responsible for the Broadcasting Corporation.<\/p>\n<p><P>The station has &#8220;tremendous problems right now,&#8221; said the minister, &#8220;We&#8217;re $14 million in debt. We owe money.&#8221;<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>But he said. &#8220;I don&#8217;t complain about things. I know what reality is and it is my job to correct it.&#8221;<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>The ministersaid the corporation must become more competitive. The news should be news, he said.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>there is a need for documentaries and investigative stories. He said he plans to attract betterbroadcasters and give Bahamians an reason to watch and listen.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>&#8220;We are going to be the voice of The Bahamas,&#8221; he said.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>The minister said there is still a need for a public radio and television station but it should not be subsidised &#8220;till it becomes a nightmare.&#8221;<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>He said ZNS has the country&#8217;s only gospel station, a captive audience. &#8220;You can&#8217;t go anywhere. If you&#8217;re a Christian you&#8217;re a Christian.&#8221;<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>And yet, the station does not reach beyond Nassau.
