{"id":239742,"date":"2002-10-22T11:57:46","date_gmt":"2002-10-22T15:57:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=239742"},"modified":"2021-02-14T09:00:31","modified_gmt":"2021-02-14T14:00:31","slug":"teen-will-stand-trial-in-tourist-murder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2002\/10\/teen-will-stand-trial-in-tourist-murder","title":{"rendered":"Teen Will Stand Trial In Tourist Murder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A magistrate ruled there is enough evidence to try a 17-year-old in the death of a Canadian tourist found in a shallow grave in the Caribbean country, authorities say. <\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>The decision by Magistrate Crawford McKee on the island of Abaco yesterday concluded a preliminary inquiry into the killing, police said. <\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>Marcia Rose McKenzie &#8212; a 35-year-old lab technician from North York &#8212; was discovered slain in August. Her body, found on Abaco Island, had multiple wounds to her head, neck and torso, police said. <\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>Police charged the 17-year-old with the murder, but did not release his identity because he is minor. <\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>Before making his decision, the magistrate heard testimony in hearings that began Thursday. <\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>The magistrate ordered the case go to trial in the Supreme Court. <\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>McKenzie arrived Aug. 16 on the northern Bahamian island just off the coast of Florida to attend a friend&#8217;s wedding and visit her Bahamian boyfriend. It was her fourth trip to the Caribbean island. <\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>She was last seen walking along a beach the morning of Aug. 17, police said.
