{"id":242253,"date":"2003-06-10T11:45:10","date_gmt":"2003-06-10T15:45:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2003\/06\/blankenship-says-us-is-proud-of-the-bahamas"},"modified":"2003-06-10T11:45:10","modified_gmt":"2003-06-10T15:45:10","slug":"blankenship-says-us-is-proud-of-the-bahamas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2003\/06\/blankenship-says-us-is-proud-of-the-bahamas","title":{"rendered":"Blankenship Says US Is Proud Of The Bahamas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Days after the surprise resignation of Ambassador Blankenship, the controversial diplomat complimented The Bahamas on putting American interests before CARICOM&#8217;s, announced the date of the bi-annual Joint Task Force meeting, and ridiculed suggestions that he was fired.<br \/>\n<P><br \/>\nIn the first interview since hisresignation was announced, Thursday, Ambassador Blankenship said the U.S. is proud of The Bahamas&#8217; decision to back the Organisation of American States (OAS)&#8217;s position on Cuba&#8217;s treatment of pro-democracy activists.<br \/>\n<P><br \/>\nThe letter was recently circulated at an OAS meeting  in New York and signed by Bahamas ambassador Joshua Sears, who is also the Bahamian representative to the OAS.<br \/>\n<P><br \/>\nSupport was split between OAS member countries, with 17 on either side.<br \/>\n<P><br \/>\nHaiti and Mexico did not support the OAS letter.
