Police remained on the lookout over the weekend for the person who struck a pedestrian Friday night and then fled the scene of the collision, which resulted ultimately in the 22nd traffic-related death in the country for the year.<\/p>\n
According to police Inspector Walter Evans, the collision occurred around 10:30pm on Montrose Avenue when the victim was hit by a white two-door “Honda-type” vehicle which was travelling north.<\/p>\n
Mr. Evans said the pedestrian sustained serious injuries as a result of being struck by the car and was transported to hospital.<\/p>\n
The victim, who was believed to be in her late 50s or early 60s, succumbed to those injuries a short time later, according to police.<\/p>\n
Police were asking members of the public who have information about the hit-and-run to contact them at 328-TIPS (328-8477), 502-9991 or 393-7714\/5.<\/p>\n
Police were also looking over the weekend for the two gunmen who were responsible for two armed robberies which law enforcement officials believe were connected.<\/p>\n
Mr. Evans reported that the first crime was committed around 9pm Friday when the perpetrators robbed the Super Saver outlet on Madeira Street.<\/p>\n
The men, one of whom was armed with a handgun and the other with a shotgun, were masked, police said.<\/p>\n
“They held an employee at bay and demanded entry to the safe,” Mr. Evans said.<\/p>\n
“They were taken to the safe where they stole an undetermined amount of cash. Upon being successful in that area they went to a cashier where they stole an additional undetermined amount of cash.”<\/p>\n
The gunmen then escaped in a silver Honda vehicle, Inspector Evans said.<\/p>\n
According to police reports, approximately one hour later two armed dark males held up the D and T Convenience Store on Dean and Nassau streets.<\/p>\n
The culprits, one armed with a handgun and the other with a shotgun, reportedly robbed the establishment of an undetermined amount of cash.<\/p>\n
As in the first episode, the pair fled the scene in a silver Honda vehicle, police said.<\/p>\n
Mr. Evans said police were following some leads into the robberies. <\/p>\n
