The Kerzner International group already has a tie-up with CapitaLand and plans to spend more than $1.5 billion on the prestigious Sentosa island project \uff96 if it wins the contract.<\/p>\n
“I would rule out working with third-party theme park operators,” Bahamas-based Mr Kerzner said in an interview with Channel NewsAsia in Singapore. <\/p>\n
“We prefer to run all the attractions ourselves.”<\/p>\n
Mr Kerzner’s consortiumn face a tough challenge to win the contract from Malaysia-based Genting International, who has a trump card in Universal Studios. “Obvious-ly, Universal is successful,” he said. “What we would bring to Singapore is different. “We have demonstrated over the years that we have the capacity to innovate with new concepts, so that you can’t go from one of our resorts to another and see the same thing,” he added on Channel NewsAsia.<\/p>\n
Mr Kerzner revealed earlier in the week that the focus for the Sentosa resort will be on family-oriented attractions. <\/p>\n
Legendary architect, Frank Gehry, who created the landmark Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, will be part of the Kerzner International team. “Singapore is a unique and diverse society in a beautiful setting,” Mr Gehry said. <\/p>\n
“The Sentosa site is like a jewel that needs to be treated gently.”<\/p>\n
