Bahamian Cilice, 21, was a medium security inmate at Her Majesty\uff92s Prison.<\/p>\n
“We are still trying to determine whether or not he has left here,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of crime Reginald Ferguson. “We are still looking for him so that we can get him back behind bars where he belongs.”<\/p>\n
It was only discovered that Cilice had escaped after a prison guard took a head count. <\/p>\n
Police officials have been searching throughout The Bahamas for the fugitive, especially in Grand Bahama which was Cilice\uff92s last known address.<\/p>\n
“There is no evidence to indicate one way or the other\uff85but it is a possibility that he could have left the country,” Mr. Ferguson said.<\/p>\n
Sidney McPhee, assistant superintendent of police and officer in charge of the Elizabeth Estates Police Station, admitted that authorities are still baffled about the escapee\uff92s whereabouts. ASP McPhee was actively involved in the initial search operation that was mounted soon after it was discovered that Cilice had vanished.<\/p>\n
Cilice was serving a three year prison sentence for fraud. He was originally set to be released in October 2007.<\/p>\n
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security Mark Wilson said if Cilice is caught he will be expected to serve more time.<\/p>\n
“Escape from prison is against the law,” he said. “The amount of time that he could serve would depend on the decision of the courts.” <\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Chief Superintendent of Her Majesty\uff92s Prison Dr. Elliston Rahming said the Internal Affairs Unit was investigating the matter.<\/p>\n
“Internal Affairs is newly formed and there are a number of matters that they are dealing with,” he said. <\/p>\n
