Jumping on China’s economic bandwagon is a roller-coaster ride littered with financial hazards. In a bid to help businesses in The Bahamas navigate the world’s fastest growing market place, Global United is putting together a workshop to help avoid the pitfalls. <\/p>\n
“So many people have been doing it wrong and losing money, so we’re bringing all the relevant people together to teach us how to do it properly,” said Marilyn Smith of Global United.<\/p>\n
Ms Smith revealed yesterday that more than 700 business high-flyers have signed up for a two-day conference, organised by Global United, at the Wyndham Nassau Resort on September 12-13.<\/p>\n
She said the “objective of the workshop” is to educate the audience on how to set up and execute cost effective methods of purchasing and shipping goods from China to The Bahamas.<\/p>\n
“The response has been overwhelming,” added Ms Smith, who pointed out that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of China and also distributors in China would be offering key advice.<\/p>\n
The conference will introduce business people to all “available forms of credit in China, the logistics of moving the cargo, bringing it directly to The Bahamas and the concept of purchasing goods in bulk”.<\/p>\n
“People only go away to shop because things are too expensive here,” said Ms Smith. <\/p>\n
“If businesses can bring those goods in and offer them to consumers at the same cost as say Florida then cons-umers would be more inclined to stay at home and shop,” she added.<\/p>\n
“The money would then stay in the economy and revenue would grow.”<\/p>\n
Global United plans to take a 100-strong delegation to a trade show in China in October where business contacts can be developed among Bahamian entrepreneurs and Chinese manufacturers.<\/p>\n
