The driver of a blue Honda was proceeding east on Poinciana Avenue when he slammed into a Chevrolet heading south on Market Street, said press liaison officer, Inspector Walter Evans<\/p>\n
The driver of the Honda lost control after the collision, crashing into the electricity pole, and, according to eyewitnesses, immediately fled on foot before police arrived.<\/p>\n
However, his four passengers, who remained on the scene until law enforcement officers arrived, said they were uncertain of the driver’s identity. <\/p>\n
They barely knew the male driver and were just “hiking a ride,” one said. <\/p>\n
Shortly after 11a.m. electricity in the surrounding area had to be shut off because of sparks from the downed power line.<\/p>\n
It was a miracle that no one was injured in the crash, both law enforcement officials and eyewitnesses agreed. <\/p>\n

* Law enforcement officials believe that the nine illegal immigrants apprehended aboard a boat in the East Bay Street area might have been preparing to leave the country.<\/p>\n
Acting on a tip, officers from “Operation Quiet Storm” arrested four Guyanese men, four Guyanese women and a Jamaican male early Sunday morning aboard a vessel at the Bay Shore Marina.<\/p>\n
The authorities believe that the vessel \uff96 “Liberty” – was preparing to leave for another, unknown destination. <\/p>\n
“We believe they were getting ready to leave the country. At this point we don’t know where they were going,” said Inspector Evans. “We are still investigating the matter at this time.” <\/p>\n
