{"id":243188,"date":"2006-08-30T02:18:53","date_gmt":"2006-08-30T06:18:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2006\/08\/police-seek-driver-who-fled-crash-scene"},"modified":"2006-08-30T02:18:53","modified_gmt":"2006-08-30T06:18:53","slug":"police-seek-driver-who-fled-crash-scene","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2006\/08\/police-seek-driver-who-fled-crash-scene","title":{"rendered":"Police Seek Driver Who Fled Crash Scene"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The driver of a blue Honda was proceeding east on Poinciana Avenue when he slammed into a Chevrolet heading south on Market Street, said press liaison officer, Inspector Walter Evans<\/p>\n<p>The driver of the Honda lost control after the collision, crashing into the electricity pole, and, according to eyewitnesses, immediately fled on foot before police arrived.<\/p>\n<p>However, his four passengers, who  remained on the scene until law enforcement officers arrived, said they were uncertain of the driver&#8217;s identity.  <\/p>\n<p>They barely knew the male driver and were just &#8220;hiking a ride,&#8221; one said. <\/p>\n<p>Shortly after 11a.m. electricity in the surrounding area had to be shut off because of sparks from the downed power line.<\/p>\n<p>It was a miracle that no one was injured in the crash, both law enforcement officials and eyewitnesses agreed. <\/p>\n<p> In other crime news:<\/p>\n<p>* Law enforcement officials believe that the nine illegal immigrants apprehended aboard a boat in the East Bay Street area might have been preparing to leave the country.<\/p>\n<p>Acting on a tip, officers from &#8220;Operation Quiet Storm&#8221; arrested four Guyanese men, four Guyanese women and a Jamaican male early Sunday morning aboard a vessel at the Bay Shore Marina.<\/p>\n<p>The authorities believe that the vessel \uff96 &#8220;Liberty&#8221; &#8211; was preparing to leave for another, unknown destination. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We believe they were getting ready to leave the country.
