{"id":243552,"date":"2006-10-04T03:05:04","date_gmt":"2006-10-04T07:05:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2006\/10\/daniel-wayne-smith-death-investigation-continues"},"modified":"2006-10-04T03:05:04","modified_gmt":"2006-10-04T07:05:04","slug":"daniel-wayne-smith-death-investigation-continues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2006\/10\/daniel-wayne-smith-death-investigation-continues","title":{"rendered":"Daniel Wayne Smith Death Investigation Continues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Daniel was found dead in his mother&#8217;s hospital room three days after she gave birth to her baby daughter Dannielynn.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities in the Bahamas received lab results from two facilities late Friday (29Sept06) and police have determined that further investigation is needed.<\/p>\n<p>Bahamas Chief Magistrate Roger Gomez tells American publication People that the toxicology and tissue tests were conducted by two labs, including one in the US used by Smith&#8217;s private pathologist, Dr Cyril Wecht.<\/p>\n<p>A source who has seen the test results has confirmed that they showed elevated levels of methadone and anti-depressant Zoloft in Daniel&#8217;s system.<\/p>\n<p>Traces of the anti-depressant Lexapro were also reportedly found.<\/p>\n<p>Gomez says the decision about whether to conduct an inquest will be made once police reports are finalised.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the continuing investigation, Wecht believes an inquest is not necessary in the case.<\/p>\n<p>He adds, &#8220;We have drug deaths in America all the time. The cause of death remains clear.
