{"id":243602,"date":"2006-10-09T12:36:43","date_gmt":"2006-10-09T16:36:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2006\/10\/foul-water-complaints-increasing"},"modified":"2006-10-09T12:36:43","modified_gmt":"2006-10-09T16:36:43","slug":"foul-water-complaints-increasing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2006\/10\/foul-water-complaints-increasing","title":{"rendered":"Foul Water Complaints Increasing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Complaints continue to mount over the quality of water in certain parts of New Providence, with some residents saying the problem with &#8220;blood-like&#8221; and &#8220;unusable&#8221; water has got so bad, and continued for so long, that they are considering leaving the Bahamas.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We don&#8217;t know what to do,&#8221; said one person who called The Tribune yesterday, days after complaints made by other residents had featured on the front page of the paper, &#8220;My husband and I are ready to leave the country.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They are charging us $300-$400 a month for water we can&#8217;t use.&#8221; According to the woman, the water is not fit to drink, bathe in, or wash clothes with. It has also cost her a washing machine and a dishwasher &#8211; as both have malfunctioned as a result of the &#8220;rusty&#8221; water.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have to take my better linens to Superwash,&#8221; said the woman, who added that the problem has been going on &#8220;for months&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I wouldn&#8217;t even give it to a cat or a dog,&#8221; she said &#8211; and even suggested that the water would be dangerous to pour out in the yard, considering the amount of metals and other contaminates it appeared to contain.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the woman said the Water and Sewerage Corporation had had &#8220;the gall&#8221; to inform her that the problem lies in her own system &#8211; despite the fact, the woman claims, that her entire neighbourhood is affected.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m afraid of what&#8217;s coming out of there -&#8216;God knows what&#8217;s in it,&#8221; she said.
