The conference will be officially opened by the Minister of State for Finance, Senator James Smith.<\/p>\n
The Caribbean Group of Securities Regulators (CGSR) was established to facilitate information sharing and promote regulatory capacity-building and training in the region. It seeks to harmonise regulatory policies and legislation and to give the region a unified voice in international forums. <\/p>\n
Under the theme ‘Chal-lenges Facing Caribbean Se-curities Regulators: Priorities & Perspectives,’ the gathering will address matters such as combating market abuse, corporate governance, enforcement, mergers & acquisitions and minority shareholders’ interests, hedge funds regulation, and the relaxation of exchange controls. <\/p>\n
Participants will be drawn from the Central Bank of The Bahamas, securities commissions and exchanges in the Caribbean region, as well as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) and the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (USSEC). The accounting and legal professions will also be represented. Presenters will include Ms Ana Carvajal, Advisor \uff96 Monetary and capital Markets Department of the IMF; Kendrick Christie, president \uff96 Bahamas Institute of chartered Accountants; Mrs Wen-dy Craigg, governor – Central Bank of The Bahamas; Keith Davies, CEO – Bahamas International Securities Exchange; Phillippe Richard, Secretary General \uff96 IOSCO; Ethiopis Tafara, Director of International Affairs at the USSEC, and Ms Wendy Warren, CEO, BFSB. <\/p>\n
