{"id":244161,"date":"2003-10-14T19:52:16","date_gmt":"2003-10-14T23:52:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2003\/10\/bnt-public-meeting-on-marine-mammal-survey"},"modified":"2003-10-14T19:52:16","modified_gmt":"2003-10-14T23:52:16","slug":"bnt-public-meeting-on-marine-mammal-survey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2003\/10\/bnt-public-meeting-on-marine-mammal-survey","title":{"rendered":"BNT Public Meeting On Marine Mammal Survey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Based in Sandy Point, Abaco, Ms. Claridge is project director and principal investigator for the survey, which involves scientists, university students and volunteers from all over the world. <\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>The project conducts a yearly species census of whales, dolphins and other marine mammals, coordinates stranding response, trains Bahamian student interns and runs an environmental summer camp for local children. <\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>The fieldwork has become focused on the ecology of resident beaked whales, sperm whales and Atlantic bottlenose dolphins. <\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>Ms. Claridge is a life member of the International Society of Marine Mammologists and is director for Abaco&#8217;s Friends of the Environment and a council member for the Bahamas National Trust. <\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>She has received numerous awards for her contribution to the conservation of marine life, including the Ministry of Tourism&#8217;s Cacique Award and the Zonta Club of New Providence&#8217;s Living Legends Award. <\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>The public is invited to attend this meeting and learn more about the Marine Mammals of the Bahamas.
