{"id":244566,"date":"2003-12-08T12:32:40","date_gmt":"2003-12-08T17:32:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2003\/12\/strong-feelings-in-poll-on-renaming-airport"},"modified":"2003-12-08T12:32:40","modified_gmt":"2003-12-08T17:32:40","slug":"strong-feelings-in-poll-on-renaming-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2003\/12\/strong-feelings-in-poll-on-renaming-airport","title":{"rendered":"Strong Feelings In Poll On Renaming Airport"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The strong feelings against a plan to name Nassau International Airport after Sir Lynden Pindling have been expressed in the latest Tribune poll.<br \/>\n<P><br \/>\nThe late prime minister was accused of leaving the Bahamas a &#8220;shabby legacy&#8221; and of besmirching the name of the nation.<br \/>\n<P><br \/>\nDue to technical difficulties, the final tally in the poll will not be known until later this week, but indications are that the anti-Pindling votes outnumbered his supporters.<P><br \/>\nWhat is known is that the poll &#8211; asking if the airport should be named after him &#8211; attracted a response far above average.<br \/>\n<P><br \/>\nMany voters claimed that if the counrty did rename the airport that it would taint the Bahamas internationally.<br \/>\n<P><br \/>\nSir Lynden&#8217;s alleged involvement in drugs and the findings of the Commission of Inquiry in the 1980&#8217;s had left a bad taste.<br \/>\n<P><br \/>\n&#8220;I think they should rename the airport. In its shabby condition, it befits the shabby legacy Sir Lynden left us,&#8221; said one voter.<br \/>\n<P><br \/>\nOthers felt that Sir Lynden has already been honoured through his protrait on the one dollar bill.<br \/>\n<P><B>The Tribune<\/B><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#39;I think they should rename the airport.
