While not wishing to preempt the minister’s announcement, Transport and Aviation Minister Glenys Hanna-Martin told The Tribune last night that she was glad the signing would take place, allowing for improvements to two runways that are long overdue.

\nIn addition to the runways. government also plans to upgrade the terminal and handover the management of the airport to a management company.
\n
\nRequests have been sent out inviting “qualified companies to submit proposals for the operation and management of” the airport. The new airport manager is expected to be announced on June 1.
\n
The Ministry of Transport and Aviation estimated that the renewal of the airport terminal will cost close to $200 million, a sum to which the passenger facility charge – one of the new introductions to finance maintenance and upkeep – will in part contribute. The remaining financing will be the responsibility of the new management company.
